Piaggio E- bike
While reading the Dagblad de Limburger I saw a cool- looking bike. What I found interesting was that this bike was produced by the parent company of Vespa, Piaggio. The Vespa scooters are extremely popular in the Netherlands and other countries around the world. In the Netherlands cycling is an obligation for some, but most enjoy their time cycling around. For those who need an electrical bike it can be quite difficult to buy one because they have to admit they’re no longer capable of cycling on their own power anymore. The battery’s on these bikes are centre of attention, the designs are ugly… but let’s look at the Piaggio Electric Bike Project.
What
The motor and the battery were both produced by Piaggio Group, a company that is specialized building motors for for example scooters. The motor doesn’t work when you disconnect the bikes display, this avoids theft. Also GPS is installed within the battery. You can track down your bike when it has been stolen and it sends data to your smartphone, for example when your battery is low after disuse. The Piaggio Multimedia Platform technology makes it possible to change your level of assistance anytime you want. Also you can give commands to your bike using voice control, the handlebar or your smartphone application. Using the display you can also charge your smartphone and upload data, for example music. The Smart Navigator on this bike analyses routes when you plan them. Through searches on the internet the Smart Navigator can give you information on for example road work and how much battery you need to travel or at what maximum speed to get back home. The Italian design of the bike is made of light weighted aluminium. The price of this electrical bike will be around 2500 euros.
Why
I thought this bicycle fitted in the leisure theme because cycling is something a lot of people enjoy doing these days. The use of an electrical bicycle becomes more populair these days. The trend of paying attention to your body makes everyone of every age moving. And the coolness within this bike lies in the endless hightech functions and options it has to work on your body. Also the Italian luxury design stands out from other electrical bikes which makes it interesting for those who don’t like the typical dull electrical bikes. . The group Piaggio focusses on is not the elderly who are in physical need of a bike like this. They focus on those who want to take time and enjoy their bicycle ride, experience the ride. Those who actually find it important to enjoy the little things in life and experience new things rather then doing what’s normal.
